This was the altar at which Jeroboam had proposed to center the worship activities of the ten-tribe nation of Israel which he was establishing (I Kings 12:28,29), and which led Israel away from the Lord. It was by this altar that an unknown prophet had said that the altar and its priests would eventually be destroyed by a man named Josiah (I Kings 13:1-3).
